In sporting terms, a Perfect 10 simply cannot be bettered. When stars get this coveted maximum score, it means they are simply in a class of their own. Some of Britain's leading football journalists have adapted the phrase to pick up on a fascinating publishing challenge.

They were asked to select a top club and name their "Perfect 10" list of players, using the timescale of the trail-blazing 1960's right up to the modern world of mega million fees and global transfers. There were no positional restrictions. Each prestigious list could contain ten strikers, or just as easily have six wingers and four goalkeepers.

The clubs who were put under the microscope and each given a "Perfect 10" by the authors who studied the claims of an array of supremely talented candidates were: Manchester United; Chelsea; Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

The end product is four individual paperback books, encompassing golden memories, famous games and legendary performances.
